Market pulse

How many of the biggest coins rise and fall each day, how far they swing and which ones move together. Worked out from our own daily closes and rebuilt every hour.

The readingto Nov 3, 2026

On Nov 3, 2026, 63 of the 84 coins closed higher than the day before, 21 lower.

Of the last 90 days we can count 88. On those, more coins rose than fell on 43 days and fewer on 44 days, and 1 day came out even. Adding each day’s risers and taking away its fallers puts the advance/decline line at −86.

Of the 84, 13 trade above their 30-day average and 28 above their 7-day average.

Bitcoin’s 30-day volatility works out at 28.8% a year, against a median of 58.9% for the 50 coins measured. Bitway swung the most, at 305.1%.

Over 90 days, the daily moves of the 12 biggest coins on the chart have an average correlation of 0.43 with each other. Ethereum moved most like bitcoin (0.89), Bitway least (−0.09).

Each column is one day. The bar above the axis counts the coins that closed higher than the day before and the bar below those that closed lower, both drawn against all 84; the faint lines mark half of them. The line starts at zero on Aug 6 and adds each day's risers minus its fallers. Hatched days have too few closes on record to count: Oct 9–10.

How widely a coin's price moved from one day to the next over the last 30 days, scaled to a year: the standard deviation of its daily log returns times the square root of 365. A coin at 80% has typically moved about 4% a day. Bitcoin and Ethereum are drawn in cyan, and the brighter line is the median.

Daily returns, 90 days to Nov 3, 2026.

Pair by pairaverage 0.43

Each cell is the correlation of two coins' daily returns: 1 when they always moved the same way, 0 when one tells you nothing about the other, −1 when they moved opposite. Only days with a close for both coins count, and a pair with fewer than 30 such days shows a dash. Lido Staked Ether, Wrapped Bitcoin and Wrapped eETH are left out: they follow their originals by design.

How these are worked out

The coins
The 100 biggest coins by market cap right now that have at least 60 daily closes on record. The 16 stablecoins among them are left out of every figure, since they're built not to move: Tether, USDS, Ethena USDe, Dai, USD1, Global Dollar, PayPal USD, Ripple USD, Falcon USD, USDD, United Stables, BFUSD, USDGO, GHO, EURC (pegged to the euro) and TrueUSD. That leaves 84.
Daily closes
A day's close is the last price we recorded for that UTC day. Every window ends on Nov 3, 2026, the last full day. A day without a close stays missing; nothing is filled in or carried over.
Breadth
A coin rose on a day when its close beat the one the day before. A day counts once at least 42 of the 84 coins have both closes.
Above the average
The price at the last read against the mean of the coin's closes over the last 7 or 30 days. A 7-day average needs 5 closes in its window and a 30-day one 20.
Volatility
The sample standard deviation of a coin's daily log returns over the last 30 days, times the square root of 365. A return needs closes on two days in a row, and the figure needs at least 20 returns.
Correlation
Pearson's correlation of two coins' daily log returns over the last 90 days, on the days both have one, and only with at least 30 of them.
One year read a day early
The closes we hold for Oct 11, 2025 to Oct 10, 2026 are each filed a day late: they match the exchanges' own daily candles one day earlier. This page reads them a day earlier so every coin's days line up, which leaves most coins without a close for Oct 9, 2026.
Not advice
All of this describes what already happened. It doesn't say what prices do next, and none of it is advice.
