About ChainRegistry
Every cryptocurrency, ranked by market cap, with current and historical prices from the exchanges that list it.
What it is
ChainRegistry is a register of cryptocurrencies: 3,010 coins ranked by market capitalisation, each with its current price, supply, the exchanges that list it and the price each one is asking, plus the project's website, socials, announcement thread, description and creation date. Every coin keeps a daily price history going back to March 2013, 1,337,208 daily closes so far, and the registry adds a new day every night.
Where the figures come from
Every number on this site is read from the exchanges listed here or computed from the registry's own readings. No market-data aggregator is used, so nothing here depends on a third party's ranking, rate limit or opinion.
- Price is the volume-weighted average of a coin's dollar, stablecoin, BTC and ETH pairs across the exchanges, read every five minutes; a venue far from the others is left out.
- Volume is the sum of those pairs' 24-hour volume. Changes over 1h, 24h and 7d are measured against the registry's own earlier readings.
- Market cap is circulating supply multiplied by price. Supply comes, in order of trust, from an administrator's figure, the coin's emission schedule (for proof-of-work coins such as Bitcoin, Litecoin, Dogecoin and Monero), the registry's own dated supply table, or a figure an exchange publishes for the asset. Each coin page says which.
- Rank is by market cap; coins nobody publishes a supply for are ranked after them by volume rather than left out. Tokenised stocks, metals and currencies are listed but kept out of the ranking.
- History is backfilled from the exchanges' own candle archives — Bitfinex reaches back to 2013, Bitstamp to 2011, Coinbase to 2015 — and from then on recorded by the registry every day, with each day's high and low.
- Names, contracts, explorers and logos come from the exchanges' currency lists; a coin no exchange serves a logo for gets the registry's own round mark in a colour derived from its ticker.
- Descriptions, socials, announcement threads and creation dates are the registry's own notes, written by its administrators and corrected by members: any signed-in member can suggest a correction on a coin's page, and an administrator checks it before it shows.
How exchange prices work
Each exchange below is polled directly through its own public ticker endpoint. Pairs quoted in US dollars or a dollar stablecoin are shown at face value; pairs quoted in BTC or ETH are converted with the registry's own price for those. A ticker symbol is matched to a coin only when the exchange's price sits within 25% of the registry's, so two unrelated tokens sharing a symbol never get mixed up; a pair an exchange already reported keeps the coin it was given.
Community sentiment
Members give each coin a single thumbs up or thumbs down, which can be changed or withdrawn at any time. The percentage shown is simply the share of thumbs up; it reflects what the registry's members think, nothing more.
Nothing here is investment advice. Prices can lag the market by a few minutes, supply figures can lag a project's own announcements, and exchanges can be unreachable from the server's location.
