Polkadot is a network of blockchains (parachains) secured by one shared relay chain, designed by Ethereum co-founder Gavin Wood and launched with its genesis block on 26 May 2020. DOT is staked by validators and nominators, used in governance, and bonded to secure a parachain's place on the network.
